Prisys Biotech, a contract research organization (CRO) that specializes in in vivo experiments using non-human primates (NHPs) and other species, took part in the annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Toxicology (JSOT) in 2023 and presented its NHP model platform at the exhibition.
The meeting, held in Yokohama from June 19 to 21, 2023, was a major event for toxicologists and related researchers from Japan and abroad. The program combined keynote lectures, symposia, workshops, poster sessions, and exhibitions across toxicology. For a CRO, the useful part of a meeting like this is the concentration of program scientists in one place for three days.
The Platform on the Show Floor
Prisys Biotech was one of the exhibitors, showcasing an NHP Pharmacology platform that covers a variety of animal experiments through one provider, drawing on modeling techniques in NHPs and other species. It supports drug development from proof-of-concept through to clinical applications, with support services such as project management, data analysis, and regulatory consulting. Toxicology programs tend to reach for NHPs when a target or a pharmacology does not exist in rodents, and the platform is organized around that constraint.
Disease Areas and Enabling Technologies
The platform covers neurology, Immunology & Inflammation, infectious diseases, metabolic diseases, and respiratory diseases, which map onto the NHP(monkey) Disease Models portfolio. Several models and specialty technologies sit alongside it, with a growing pipeline: a deep learning-based 3D behavioral quantification system¹, aerodynamic laboratories for pulmonary exposure and clinical measurements¹, and adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy. The behavioral work runs on the AI-based NHP Behavior Analysis System.
Collaboration Models
Prisys Biotech also offers cooperative development options. Under the joint development option, customers retain ownership of intellectual property. Longer-term research agreements support new product development in cancer and gynecology.
What Visitors Asked About
Representatives walked visitors through the platform and answered questions from researchers who stopped by. The team also exchanged views with other exhibitors and participants on where toxicology is heading. Interest centered on how one provider can carry a program from model establishment through to the data package.
Participation in the JSOT annual meeting gave Prisys Biotech a chance to present the platform and to meet potential partners and customers. The company continues to focus on advancing NHP disease modeling and translational research through NHP technologies and collaborative research.
