Prisys: Advancing Animal Experimentation Through Cynomolgus Macaque Studies

Prisys Biotechnologies Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Prisys") builds disease models and runs pharmacology work for animal experiments. The species range covers non-human primates (NHP), experimental dogs, experimental pigs, and rodents, and the service lines cover pharmacology and efficacy studies, safety assessment, biomarker research, and mechanism concept validation. Together these support new drug development from target validation through to candidate selection.

Much of the NHP work sits inside the NHP Pharmacology platform, and one part of it concerns sexual maturation in cynomolgus macaques. Maturity status is not a detail. Organ weights, hormone levels, and reproductive histology all shift with it, so an animal that is immature, peripubertal, or mature will produce different background data in the same study design. Getting that call right keeps non-clinical safety data comparable across studies and supports Toxicology packages and Dose Range Finding (DRF) decisions.

Cynomolgus Macaque Sexual Maturation Indicators

1. Accurate Sexual Maturation Assessment

Assessment of cynomolgus macaque sexual maturation rests on a combination of factors, including sperm production, age, weight, and testicular volume. No single measure settles the question: age says little about an individual animal's status, and testicular volume tracks the hormonal axis rather than spermatogenesis directly. Used together, they support a defensible call on maturity, and therefore on whether an animal belongs in a given study.

2. Biomarker Research

The work is not limited to male animals. For females, vaginal swab monitoring and hormone level measurements follow the menstrual cycle, so cycle stage can be accounted for at dosing and at necropsy rather than being discovered afterwards.

3. Technical Means

Ultrasound measurement of testicular volume and analysis of semen samples are the main techniques. Ultrasound gives a repeatable volume in the same animal over time, and semen analysis adds a functional readout that volume cannot provide.

4. Well-Established Disease Models

Beyond sexual maturation, Prisys has built disease models in multiple experimental species, which gives a translational program a choice of species and endpoint sets rather than one fixed option. The portfolio is listed under NHP(monkey) Disease Models. Species choice usually follows the question rather than a preference: rodents answer mechanism questions cheaply, while a non-human primate answers questions about exposure, immunogenicity, and clinical procedure that a rodent cannot.

The value of the maturation work is narrow but concrete. Maturity status sets the reference range a safety study is read against, and a program that gets it wrong pays for the difference later as unexplained variability. Prisys' work on these indicators, and its handling standards under the Animal-Welfare policy, are aimed at taking that variable out of the data.
