Endotoxemia / Sepsis


Background: Endotoxemia is caused by the presence of endotoxins from bacterial wall in circulation. It leads to systemic inflammation, or even septic shock if the immune response is severely pronounced.

Model: LPS induced acute endotoxemia

Background: Sepsis is a systemic infection by pathogenic microorganisms, especially bacteria, which invades the bloodstream. Sepsis is characterized by fever, increased number of white blood cells, increased heart rate, and other signs of widespread infection.

Model: Cecum perforation induced sepsis

Standard study duration: 1 week.

Clinical endpoint: Cytokine induction, coagulation, biochemistry, abdominal pain…

Features: Emergency rescue, sub-lethal disease severity, peritonitis…
